INCLUSIVE FITNESS & UNIFIED SPORTS
We are ABLE.
SPRING 2020 UPDATE
Due to COVID-19 (the novel coronavirus), we are suspending our program for the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester to abide by the recommendations of the University of Florida and Alachua County Schools. While we are truly saddened by the abrupt ending of our program, we realize that the safety and health of the peers and volunteers remain our utmost priority.
A WORD ABOUT US
Inclusive Fitness and Unified Sports (IFUS) is a community-based participatory research program that aims to improve the quality of life of students with physical and intellectual disabilities. In IFUS, UF students and peers with disabilities from the Sidney Lanier Center and Santa Fe transition program workout together in small groups twice a week. IFUS has been functioning for about 30 years and has published research articles and fostered lasting friendships and healthy lifestyles. We meet every Tuesday and Thursday during fall and spring semesters, from 12pm-2pm, on the UF campus. UF student volunteers and peers work to create an encouraging and challenging atmosphere while completing workouts and practicing sports. The main goal of this program is to prepare adults with disabilities to enter the work force through an exercise intervention program.
